Introduction to the Course

‘Fashion Designing (FD)Level 1’ has been developed for the beginners who wants to initiate their journey as a Fashion Designer. Its key purpose is to introduce youth with the fashion industry and facilitate them in building their basic ideas and skills to become a competent and creative Fashion Designer/

Course objective

The program will facilitate the students to:

• Learn and use the core concepts of fashion designing including the types of colors, patterns etc. in creating a variety of products.

• Learn basic steps of a dress designing including fabric selection, taking measurements, pattern making, cutting, sewing, adding accessories and finishing.

• Acquire competency in developing the following types of dresses
  
• Asian Dresses: Ladies Shalwar Qameez, Sari, Frock, Different types of Trousers.
• Western Dresses: Bubble Blouse, Gather Frock, Maxi Dress, Bustier Dress

• Generate ideas to initiate one’s own business using fashion designing skills.

• Advance their skills for working effectively in teams and boost their confidence for public communication and presentations

Entry Criteria

• Minimum Qualification: Matric
• Interest for fashion designing
• Basic English language and basic Mathematics skills

Sketching	How to sketch Importance of sketching in Fashion Designing Various types of sketching and introduction to resources used for sketching	Demonstrating and engaging students in Drawing simple pencil sketches of various dresses Proper shading of sketches Using multiple shades to render sketches
3.Measurements	Introduction to basic scales and units for measurements Steps to take measurements of a body and of a dress Ways of recording the measurement	Using PowerPoint Presentation and Demonstrational Video helping students to understand measurements Measuring tape reading and recording of appropriate sizing. Engaging class in taking measurements by dividing it into groups to record each other’s measurements and tally to fix any errors.
4. Fabric Selection	Introduction of different types of fabrics including its behavior, rotation, weight, care and rules. Introducing standard fabric sample Catalogues Analysis of shrinkage, color fasting and contrasting. Intro to Grain line and Bias cuts.	Using samples, discussions and power point presentation, introducing various types of fabric Engaging students in selecting different types of fabrics. Students will create report/presentations based on the their research work.
